It has been 5 months since I went to Gangnam EyeMedi Lasik Center and met with Dr. Choo. I knew I always wanted eye corrective eye surgery and knew about LASIK. When doing some research, I discovered there’s a different type of surgery, LASEK, that comes with similar results. It fit my lifestyle and interests better. There were so many amazing reviews online about the eye center and so I made an appointment right away. They saw me right away, and the staff were all so amazing and friendly. I have never had surgery before and I was afraid of the risks involved, but Dr. Choo always reassured me and made me feel comfortable after each exam as he would relay my results and my eye health and qualifications for the procedure each step of the way. It was amazing how smoothly and quickly everything was done. The procedure itself was literally only 20 minutes. I was nervous because you’re awake, but the surgeon, Dr. Lee, talked me through it throughout the surgery. The amazing thing was how immediate the results were when I sat up. Although, post-op hits pretty quickly. Because LASEK is a bit more invasive than LASIK, it took about 4 days of fumbling around at home during post-op to regain vision as light sensitivity was pretty intense. I was never in pain after, just uncomfortable because of sensitivity. It’s to be expected, though. Slowly after that, I went back to daily tasks. Only a week after, I got on a plane and went to Jeju. I did have vision fluctuations, but my vision was already better (not 100%, but more than my original sight and no discomfort).

Before I returned to the states, I had a couple visits to the eye center and the doctors and staff all made sure I was equip to go back, stocking me with medications and drops I needed for the next 6 months (it is a long process, but trust me, it’s worth the time…). After I returned, Dr. Choo continued to check on my progress. It can be a bit frustrating, but just remember the papers and words said by the doctors prior to getting the surgery. Recovery takes time. I felt a little apprehensive for a couple months because my vision was very on and off. I would have days I couldn’t see clearly close up and days from far away… at about the 4 month period, my vision began stabilizing, and now, I have amazing sight. Remember patience! Listen to the doctors and realize this is SURGERY. I do have some dry eye now (normal) mostly because of the dry winter months, but I have noticed it does continue to reduce.

The doctors and staff at Gangnam Eye Center are wonderful and really take an interest in their patients. Even after I left, they continually show interest in my health and made sure I had everything I needed. It was also a relief to find quick, efficient medical professionals who speak English, because it can be very daunting as a foreigner. I highly recommend this facility for anyone interested in corrective eye surgery. They are very professional and reliable in their care. They always consider your time and situation.
